How to contact our team
We are passionate about putting the environment at the heart of what we do; helping communities help themselves to make a difference to society.
The Groundwork East of England team works on dozens of individual environmental, social and economic related projects in the East of England each year. We directly help communities improve, in a sustainable way, the quality of their lives and the places they live. Our projects are diverse and range from helping elderly people stay in their homes by organising volunteer Green teams to clear their gardens, working with whole communities to mitigate against flood risk and reduce their carbon footprint, supporting small businesses to be more resource efficient and cut their costs, to encouraging communities to develop landscape improvement schemes, services and facilities.
All this activity requires substantial funding and would not be possible without the support of our partners and people like you.
Make a donation of whatever size - A one-off or a regular donation would make a big difference to our work and to people's lives. We have teamed up with online fundraising website CharityGiving where you can make your donation quickly and easily. Just click on the button below to make a donation.
In October 2010 we carried out a successful pilot programme funded by a legacy donation, working with local authority partners to develop a behavioural change carbon reduction programme for primary and secondary schools. ‘Schools - Switch on to Turning off’ ran in Hertfordshire, Luton and Bedfordshire, South Essex and Haven Gateway.
The pilot is being developed into a new regional programme. Results have already shown that the project has made a real difference to pupil and teacher behaviour. 80% are switching lights off when leaving a classroom and 93% saying they are trying to save energy and water at home.
Groundwork would now like to extend the work to other areas in the region. Unfortunately there is a lack of funding sources either in the public or private sector for behaviour change work in schools. If we are to build on the enthusiasm we have found, we need to appeal to our supporters and partners direct.
In August 2011 a team from Groundwork East of England and Suffolk Coastal District Council with partners undertook a gruelling 60 mile sponsored bike ride to raise over £1300 for the campaign and another fundraising event is being planned for 2012.
Please help us make a real difference and support the next generation to cut carbon and reduce their impact on finite resources.
Our target areas are primary schools in Suffolk, Hertfordshire, Luton and Bedfordshire and Essex and for every pound we raise, we will ask a participating school to match the amount we are seeking.
