Children doing environmental workIn the financial year 2009-10, Groundwork in the Eastern Region:

  • Delivered 327 projects 
  • Planted 3,068 trees 
  • Improved 928,610m² of land (291,110m² more than previous year)
  • Maintained a further 193,949m² of land (61,543m² more than previous year)
  • Provided 3,510 days for young people to be actively involved
  • Provided 1,824 days for adults to be actively involved
  • Actively involved 110 schools in their work
  • Supported 256 businesses across their projects
  • Created 28 jobs (15 more than previous year) 
  • Provided 431 training weeks resulting in 116 formal qualifications
  • Saved 2040.88 tonnes of CO² in their work (1310.88 tonnes more than previous year)

In the financial year 2009-10, Groundwork East of England supported 22 young people on a government led employment programme and are committed to continue supporting this programme this financial year 10-11 and to date are supporting 27 young people.  Each person works full time in various roles such as:

  • Green Team 
  • Sub-regional organisations such as Wat Tyler Country Park and Re-cycle, both in Essex
