In May 2011 the Shotley Stour Footpath Renovation Group won the ilovelandscapes competition for a grant of £18,000 to help secure the estuary footpath and refurbish the picnic area at Shotley Gate. The project was completed and opened on 19th September by Tim Yeo, MP.
