Following funding cuts, the hugely popular GreenAiders scheme came to an end in May this year. This scheme provided valuable support to elderly and vulnerable people who had difficulty maintaining their gardens. For examples of the work carried out by the Green Team, look at the GreenAiders case studies.
The GreenAiders project has also helped give a total of 20 young unemployed people relevant experience in the workplace though the Future Job Fund scheme. One former FJF employee has entered into permanent employment as a direct result of this work.
All the feedback we received for the GreenAiders scheme was very positive, so we felt that it would be a shame simply to stop this work altogether. Therefore, the Green Team: Gardening project was set up.
The new Green Team is made up of young people who have not been in work, education or employment for some time. The aim is to provide young people with the same opportunities, experience and sense of community which had previously been offered through the Future Jobs Fund.
The Green Team is available to carry out garden clearances/maintenance for people who meet any of the following criteria:
People who meet any of these criteria can hire the Green Team for £18 per hour (inc. VAT). There is a minimum charge of 1 hour, and after that first hour the charge is broken down into 15 minute blocks for £4.50 (inc. VAT ). This charge is not per person – it covers the whole team, which usually consists of 4 or 5 people.
Although the Green Team can shred garden waste, they are not able to dispose of it. The waste will be shredded to make it as small as possible, then bagged up neatly ready for your normal bin collection.
