Through our work we improve people’s health both directly and indirectly. We run specific initiatives such as healthy eating programmes or walking schemes, but much of our work helping to improve lives in disadvantaged communities, affects the wider determinants of health. We’ve found that encouraging people to value, use and improve open spaces is one of the most effective ways of kick-starting a revival in the fortunes of damaged communities and also helping people adopt healthier lifestyles. Through our work, more people are encouraged to walk, cycle and exercise, and we support food growing and healthy eating initiatives in many areas. Improving mental well-being is a major outcome of many of our youth and employment programmes.
