Businesses at the Grovebury Road industrial estate in Leighton Buzzard are helping transform the area to improve it for users, visitors and local residents alike.
The project, which is being delivered by local environmental charity Groundwork Luton & Bedfordshire on behalf of Central Bedfordshire Council, will develop an enhancement plan to consider ways in which Grovebury Road industrial estate can be improved to create sustainable environmental landscape areas. In addition, the Council hopes to see a stronger link between the businesses on the estate and Tiddenfoot Waterside Park (to the west of the estate) and create a welcoming approach to the town centre from Grovebury Road.
As part of the project, Groundwork will undertake a full site audit, including an appraisal of existing landscape and neighbouring green areas, review existing historical information, examine the existing landscape and townscape and distribute questionnaires to businesses and community groups based on the estate and residents of Grovebury Road.
Feedback will be collected and collated in January, after which time Groundwork will produce an enhancement plan for the area including consideration of links to surrounding green sites, the wider town and improvements on the estate including signage, lighting, planting and facilities for pedestrians and cyclists. Businesses will then be given the opportunity to view the plan and invited to take part in implementation of elements of the plan on site.
Bedfordshire Chamber of Commerce, Leighton Linslade Town Council and LB Connect are also working alongside Groundwork and Central Bedfordshire Council to ensure that all users of the site are given the opportunity to comment on the proposals.
Central Bedfordshire Councillor Ken Matthews, Executive Member for Sustainable Communities - Strategic Planning & Economic Development, commented "We are delighted to have secured the services of Groundwork Luton & Bedfordshire to undertake this important project and look forward to receiving their suggested Enhancement Plan and, moreover, to realising the proposed improvements for the benefit of users and local residents in and around Grovebury Road."
The enhancement plan will be completed by the end of February 2012 and act a guide for future development and improvements, which will benefit businesses based on the estate through the contribution of landscape improvement ideas and the opportunity to get involved in future volunteering events on the estate.
For further information about the project, please contact Natalie Offord at Groundwork on 01582 720147 or natalie.offord@groundwork.org.uk.
Groundwork is encouraging businesses on the estate to contribute to the enhancement plan in order to make the area more attractive, through landscape improvement suggestions and also through opportunities to get involved in future volunteering events on the estate.
